Recording Studio Summer Camp at 7th Wave Recording
A summer program for teens and young adults!
Session dates for Summer 2012 are:
• Monday, July 9, 2012 through Friday, July 20, 2012
Every Summer for the past 15 years the studio has run a training program for
young audio engineers.
This is a two week "day camp" that covers an inspiring amount of material in
a relatively short amount of time. The curriculum details the theory and practice
of modern music recording in a hands on approach that has been refined over the years.
Each days' session begins with a 30 to 60 minute reading and discussion of a
different technical aspect of this craft. One day we will be discussing cable and
connectors, the next day, microphones and mixers. The remainder of each day is
devoted to demos and workshops where we apply the new skills we have discussed
that morning.
Program Outline:
Week One: The first week is when we focus on learning about the various hardware
and its' functions. Microphones, Mixing Consoles, Signal Flow, Signal Processing,
Cable and Connectors (each student has to build a guitar cable) Sound System Set -Up,
Tape Machine and Hard Disc Recording.
Week Two: This is where we really get into it hands on, as our time is spent in
applied workshops where students go through the process of tracking, over-dubbing
and mixing their own recording projects. Class members take turns as recording engineer,
producer and studio musician. One day you might be the talent, the next day, you might
be the producer. It is important to note that while most participants usually play
a musical instrument, this is not necessary as a requirement to taking the class.
Anyone with an interest in the recording arts is welcome.
Price (2 week session): $650, all materials included.
